SPORTS NUTRITION

Sports nutrition is important because it provides the energy, nutrients, and recovery support your body needs to perform well, avoid injury, and adapt to training.

Sports nutrition matters because it directly affects performance, recovery, and long‑term health.  The demands on a hockey players' body during training and competition are higher than in everyday life, and nutrition is one of the main tools for meeting those demands.

  • Carbohydrates - the body’s fastest fuel source during exercise. They allow athletes to maintain higher intensity exercise for longer, improving endurance and stamina. Without enough fuel, performance drops quickly.

  • Protein — provides amino acids for building and repairing muscles. This is essential for strength gains, recovery, and reducing soreness.

  • Fats -

  • Fluid — Fluids and electrolytes (like sodium and potassium) maintain hydration and electrolyte balance regulating temperature, preventing cramps, and keeping the cardiovascular system working efficiently.

  • Supports immune function — Intense training can temporarily weaken the immune system; good nutrition helps reduce illness risk.

  • Enhances recovery — The right balance of carbohydrates and protein after exercise replenishes glycogen stores and repairs muscle tissue more effectively.
